CSG-WEST 62nd Annual Meeting

October 5-8, 2009

Santa Fe, New Mexico

Representative Ronda Rudd Menlove, Utah
Vice Chair

Twenty five years after the “A Nation at Risk” report and six years into the “No Child Left Behind” (NCLB) Act, the Education committee will explore education reform in the western states and focus on “Strategies that Work”. High stakes testing, increased student diversity, teacher shortages, math and science education and preparing our children for the future of an increasingly globalized economy are all issues that each state is addressing. Among the strategies that have proven success are: high school juniors and seniors simultaneously attending community college and graduating with an AA degree, pre-apprenticeship training, and vocational training with industry certification. Other areas for exploration will be Early Childhood Education as well as effective and proven early interventions for at-risk populations.
