2015-2016 Education & Workforce Development Committee

 

The Education & Workforce Development Committee provides Western lawmakers with a forum to discuss issues relating to education and workforce development. The committee members participate in policy discussions and hear from experts about P-20 education and its relationship to cultivating a strong workforce. Additionally, the Committee shares insights on national education and workforce development programs and initiatives.

2016 Annual Meeting

 

Steve Fleischman, CEO of Education Northwest, will discuss the implications of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) for states. Members will hear from national school finance expert Michael Griffith, of the Education Commission of the States, on the elements of a highquality state school funding formula. Brennan McMahon Parton, of the Data Quality Campaign, will discuss effective state student data systems and the concerns over the use of student data. CSG’s Jennifer Burnett will discuss public, private, and academic partnerships in support of workforce development and will provide committee members with a report describing their state’s academic comparative advantage. The meeting will conclude with individual state reports.
