WHAT IS THE BORDER LEGISLATIVE ACADEMY (BLA)?

 

The BLA is a two and half day binational professional development training program for U.S. – Mexico border state legislators within their first four years of cumulative service. The program incorporates a mix of practical skills building and informational sessions.

 

WHAT ARE THE GOALS OF THE BLA?

 

 

The program was established to help border legislators overcome impacts of term limits; better understand the complexities of governing along the border region; increase the roles of states to address shared concerns; and to increase mutual understanding.

 

WHERE WILL THE PROGRAM BE?

 

The 2018 BLA will convene July 12-15 in San Diego, California.

HOW ARE EXPENSES COVERED?

 

CSG West partners with the University of California San Diego’s Center for U.S. – Mexican Studies to administer the BLA, with support from the private sector and The Council of State Government’s 21st Century Foundation to cover academy costs, including meals and housing. Participants are responsible for their travel costs to and from San Diego.
